Name: Eric Hutton
Current Ford owned: Escort Mk11 RS2000; Mk1 Cortina; Anglia 105E; AU Falcon Ute
Other cars presently owned: Mk1 Twin Cam Escort
Previous Fords owned: Mk1 Escort GT1600; Mk1 Escort Twin Cam; Anglia 105E
Family Details: Married two children (left home)
How did you get into Fords: As a young person I could not persuade the bank manager to lend me enough money to but a Mini Cooper S. A Ford Escort 1300 was cheaper. That started it.
What do like most about owning your Ford: Good value for money. Simple to work on. Relatively easy to extract extra power.
If you could change anything on it what would it be: I would try to reduce effects of my obsession with classic Fords. I have tried professional help. That assisted me to reduce my fleet from 11 cars to 3, but there has been some bracket creep in the last couple of years.
How did you find your current car: Have owned RS2000 since new (1979); saw Cortina at Small Ford Sunday in Melbourne three years ago and bought it several months later; found Anglia on the internet.
Most memorable Ford moment: Seeing Roger Clark drive works RS1800 Escort in the Southern Cross Rally in 1976.
Best road for driving the Ford: Mount Panorama in Bathurst. Lived there for two years and clocked up about 50,000km around the mountain.
Motor sport interests: Classic cars (leaves V8 category for dead); classic rallying
Your ideal Ford would be: Either Mk1 Escort RS1600 or GT40
If you had to own a car other than a Ford, it would be: Lancia Stratos
Should Ford bring back the GTHO: No. With current vehicle building regulations they would never be able to recreate a real beast (no offence Wayne).
Favourite Club event: So far the visit to Jim Cooper's museum
A car you would never own: Any four wheel drive commercial vehicle (especially pretentious Toorak tractors)
Favourite Bathurst moment: Moffatt and Bond 1-2 finish (but Bond should have crossed the line first)
Fastest speeding fine: This is dangerous territory for me. My only speeding fine ever was for doing 104km/h in a 100km/h zone near Bendigo in Victoria. I had just come out of 110km/h zone and apparently the Police in Victoria only allow a 3% margin for error. I whinged so much they let me off with a warning.
Other interests: Small scale vehicle models; model trains Four people you would share a meal with: Roger Clark (but unfortunately he is dead); Michelle Mouton (one of the best rally drivers ever, but certainly the best female driver in the world); Costin and Duckworth, the founders of Cosworth.
Most admired person: Nelson Mandella
Best holiday spot: New Zealand (anywhere therein); Great Ocean Road, Victoria Favourite restaurant: Coolangatta Estate Winery (south coast NSW); Evoo
Ideal weekend: Driving a well tuned Twin Cam Escort on the Great Ocean Road (as long as I could have it to myself) | | | | |
