Name: Rob Miller uncle of Michael Lording a real rev head
Current Ford owned: 1970 XW GT Falcon
Other cars presently owned: 1934 Plymouth, 1951 Ford Custom (Twinspinner), XY Falcon
Previous Fords owned: No Fords but I had a Mini 850 with a 1275 Cooper S motor in it! Bit like a wolf in sheeps clothing!
Family Details: Married with 3 sons and one grandson. No girls, we have to marry them into the family!
How did you get into Fords: When I was around 17 I worked in Darwin with a bloke that had a GTHO Ph 111 (yes a real one!) he had his motor out doing some work on it and I helped him put his motor back in his car. When we had completed this we took the car for a drive down to where the duck pond is now. He pulled to a stop, took the revs up and dropped it! I had never been so terrified and exhilarated at the same time in my life. Watching that big shaker kick sideways, the engine roaring, the tyres howling and then being thrown so hard into the back of the seat I thought I had broken my neck! I was hooked from that day on. After we had returned to the workshop and I had regained my composure I quietly said to myself I am going to own a GT one day. 12 years later I did!
I think it is the appreciation it receives from people. If you like cars it doesn't matter if your Ford, Holden, Chrysler etc any classic car driving around still gains appreciation from most people.
What do like most about owning your Ford: Where do you start and where do you finish? As a whole probably nothing. I prefer the Cleveland motor thats why I bought this one as it was manufactured in April 1970 and received the Clevo. I won't tell you about the one I didn't choose because it had a Windsor motor. (It still hurts too much)
What would you like to change on the car:? The one thing I would change is larger brakes! My car was for sale on consignment, at a car yard on Bagot road in 1987.
Most memorable Ford moment: When my GT went straight over the pits for registration after 18years off the road!
Best road for driving the Ford: Stuart Highway. Big open expanses of nothing where you can see for miles and until recently no speed limit! Suits a GT perfectly!
Motor sport interests: Supercars, Bathurst and Motor Museums
Your ideal Ford would be: Phase 111 straight off the production line
If you had to own a car other than a Ford, it would be: Porsche 911S, Dodge Viper, GT 40, E49 Charger, Pontiac GTO etc, etc,
Should Ford bring back the GTHO: Absolutely not. You should not mess with a legend. Bringing back the GT into production was enough. Holden needed something to get belted by!
Favourite Club event: Shannons track day
A car you would never own: A Volvo
Favourite Bathurst moment: Craig Lowndes last Bathurst win
Fastest speeding fine: None. Did get done for racing on a public road when I was a teenager though.
Other interests: Working on old cars, Fishing, Caravaning
Football team: Parramatta Eels
Four people you would share a meal with: Peter Brock, Dick Smith, Harvey Norman and Elle McPherson because I think she is cute!
Other sports interests: Just the usual
Most admired person: My wife. She taught me to follow my dreams and encouraged me in the purchase of my GT when times were very difficult. She has also once again, 20yrs later, supported me in the restoration of the car at the expense of other things because it was so important to me.
Best holiday spot: Anywhere other then Darwin in the build up!
Favourite restaurant: At the moment Humpty Doo Golf Club. Great meal!
Ideal weekend: Driving with my girl in my GT!
